About The Pinkie Gordon Lane Graduate School
Louisiana State University (LSU) is a flagship public, land, sea- and space-grant doctoral university and an academically elite educational institution playing a national leadership role in graduate education and research. The synergy between our internationally renowned faculty and our graduate student population helps to keep Louisiana, the nation, and global partners on the leading edge of discovery.
Having awarded its first graduate degree in 1869, The Pinkie Gordon Lane Graduate School represents and supports all of LSU’s graduate programs in partnership with departments, colleges, and other academic units involved in graduate education. This includes programs in the 10 disciplinary colleges and the School of Veterinary Medicine, as well as partners at the LSU system academic units, such as the Agriculture Center and the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, where graduate students and programs are needed to support their work.

With more than 230 degree programs, the LSU Graduate School offers more extended and comprehensive programs than any other educational institution in Louisiana. LSU’s Graduate School was established because the university recognized its obligation to provide an environment for research and inquiry and to make the results of these activities available to the public. LSU is the state’s Flagship University, thus the Graduate School serves as the center of academic research and advanced studies, which administers a more extensive and comprehensive program than any other educational institution in Louisiana.
LSU offers doctoral programs in over 50 major fields of study. These programs offer opportunities for advanced training and research in all areas of the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Master’s degree programs are offered in over 70 major fields. These range from Master of Fine Arts degrees in fields such as creative writing, studio art, and theatre, to professional degree programs in social work, business administration, and library and information science. Graduate Certificates are available in 26 fields of study.
